The lute in central europe had it's time from about 1500 to 1800. During this period she run through a enormous development. At the beginning of this period and during the renaissance time, she had 5 and 6 cources, has been played with the sill developed until about 1620 up to a 10 cource instrument. Later on in the baroque area the number of cources raised up to 11, 13 and sometimes 14 courses. The lowest 2 courses were placed on a bass rider and some models had 5 courses with a longer string length, the so called german baroque lute.
